Susan
Sturges Hyde, age 57, of Atlanta, died January 9, 2001 of ovarian cancer.
Mrs. Hyde was born in Meridian, MS, February 9, 1943. She was a graduate
of Florida State University and a member of Tri Delta Alumni Association.
She was in Who's Who of American Hospitality in 1993 and was twice the
President of Concierge Society of Atlanta. Mrs. Hyde was Atlanta Concierge
of the Year in 1993 and was the first recipient of the Concierge Hall
of Fame Award in 1996. She was an Advisory Board Member of the Concierge
Society of Atlanta, on the Executive Board of Directors of The Georgia
Ovarian Cancer Alliance and served three years on the St. Joseph's Cancer
Survivor's Network Board. In 1997, she represented St. Joseph's at the
M. D. Anderson Cancer Conference. In addition to her many volunteer
and professional duties, Mrs. Hyde was a prize winning photographer,
a gifted chef and needlepoint artist, poet, public speaker and published
author. Her gifts of humor are shared in her best-selling book about
cancer, "No More Bad Hair Days." Of all her gifts, Mrs. Hyde
said often that her greatest gifts were her children, Susanna Hyde Shewan
of Decatur, Nicholas Whitfield Hyde, Vanessa Evans Hyde and her step-son
Jeffrey Howard Hyde, all of Atlanta. She is also survived by her aunt
and uncle, Sara and John Torode of Kinglsey Lake, FL and numerous cousins
and dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Dunstan's Episcopal
Church, where Mrs. Hyde was a beloved member. The service will be held
on January 11, 2001, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Margaret Rose officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to St. Joseph's Mercy
Foundation, the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance or St. Dunstan's Episcopal
Church.
