Charles "Charlie" Carlton Matthews

MATTHEWS, CHARLES CARLTON, 72, died suddenly at his home Thanksgiving Day. Born in Knoxville in 1943 to Dorothy Linkous Matthews and Harry Carlton Matthews. He attended Winter Park High School. Graduated from UT where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was a founding member of the Atlanta Men's Crusillo, served on Hope Resource Board, was an avid golfer and loved his golfing buddies. He was a longtime member of Cedar Springs Church where he lovingly kept the two-year olds for Sunday school and hosted Friday morning Bible studies for his friends. He was the loving support and caregiver for his family. He was the "hunter-gatherer" and most beloved "Papa" and Dad to Hunter. He made us laugh. He quieted our fears. We will miss him terribly.

Charlie will be missed by his wife, Joy, their children, Wendy Methvin and her husband Michael, Greg Matthews and his wife Lauren, Meghan Denney, and Hunter Matthews; as well as his grandchildren, Madeline Methvin, Jack Methvin, Emma Brown, Rylie Brown, and little Charlie Matthews. He will be missed by his brother Mike Matthews; nephews Andrew Michael and Will Matthews, and a host of friends. 2 Timothy 4:8 "There is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Roy Zinn and Pastor Doug White officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Resource Center, www.knoxvillehope.com.
