to dinner... and where could this be? Per
Bill Ronay -- This is the Ice House Restraint. Yes, it actually was
an ice house and part of a warehouse district located along the spur
of the east/west railroad line on the west side of Madison in the early
1900's on through the late 70's. Note the sunken bar area beyond the
railing. The floor we are standing on was a loading area. The beam behind
me is one of nearly all of the beams which remain. The exposed brick
walls and 25' ceilings are just as they were way-back-when... Other
parts of the complex have loft housing, law offices, art galleries,
a bakery...and, oh yes, a $2 million construction project is going on
across the street to build a park square similar to the one which was
two blocks away, 80 years ago, in front of the Courthouse. |
