Weekend in Madison, Georgia -- August 19, 2006
Dave and Katherine Rees
Off to dinner... and where could this be? Per Bill Ronay -- This is the Ice House Restraint. Yes, it actually was an ice house and part of a warehouse district located along the spur of the east/west railroad line on the west side of Madison in the early 1900's on through the late 70's. Note the sunken bar area beyond the railing. The floor we are standing on was a loading area. The beam behind me is one of nearly all of the beams which remain. The exposed brick walls and 25' ceilings are just as they were way-back-when... Other parts of the complex have loft housing, law offices, art galleries, a bakery...and, oh yes, a $2 million construction project is going on across the street to build a park square similar to the one which was two blocks away, 80 years ago, in front of the Courthouse.
