MAY,
GRACE HENDERSHOT, 88, of Winter Park, and formerly
of Lakeland, died on July 17, 2008 from heart failure. She
was 88. Grace was born on April 11, 1920 in Wilson, PA,
and grew up in the town of Clairton, just outside Pittsburgh.
She graduated from Penn State University in 1941 with a
B.A. Degree in Music Education. Grace was an active member
and alumna of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After teaching
music at Montgomery Blair High School in Washington, D.C.,
Grace moved to Florida in 1946 where she taught in the Public
Schools of Winter Haven, Winter Park and Lakeland. An accomplished
musician, Grace taught private piano and violin lessons
for over 30 years. In addition to playing violin in both
the Florida Symphony Orchestra in Orlando and Lakeland Symphony
Orchestra, Grace also sang in the Winter Park and Polk County
Bach Festivals. She was an active member of Winter Park
Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church of
Lakeland, where she was president of the Women of the Church,
a Circle and Bible Study Leader, and Choir Member. Grace
was pre-deceased in March of this year by her loving husband
of 66 years, Richard W. May. She is survived by daughter,
Sharon M. Austin (Lynn) of Dallas, TX; son, Bruce W. May
(Barbara) of Maitland, FL; granddaughters, Melissa M. Hartsgrove
(Tony) of Maitland; Marcee A. Taylor (Gary) of Dallas; and
Julie M. Tyler (Josh) of San Antonio, TX; two grandsons,
Matthew S. Austin (Karen) of Dallas; and Steven T. May (Hillary)
of Atlanta, GA; and ten great grandchildren. Memorial services
will be held at the Orangewood Presbyterian Church in Maitland
at 10:30AM on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Heath Funeral Chapel

SMITH,
MARTHA GAINES CASH, 95, died peacefully at home
on July 4, 2008. Born January 6, 1913, to Sidney A. Gaines
and Laura Lee Gaines, Martha grew up in Elberton, GA She
graduated from Wesleyan College and supported her beloved
alma mater all of her life. After college she married John
Thornton Cash, and they moved to Thomson, GA, to raise their
family. In 1955, Martha and John moved to Orlando. An active
and energetic member of the community, Martha was a past
president of the Orlando day Nursery, a member of the Rosalind
Club, and a former member of the Orlando Country Club. Martha
taught English at Glenridge Junior High School, enriching
the young lives she touched. A faithful follower of Christ
all her life, she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband of 55 years in 1993, Martha's
children and grandchildren were her greatest blessings.
"Mimi" enjoyed a full and busy life as the matriarch
of a large, close-knit family. In 1995, Martha married Benjamin
Smith, a former high school classmate, and moved with him
to Elberton, GA, where they lived for six years. After Mr.
Smith's death, Martha returned to Orlando. Martha was best
known as a vivacious and loving friend. Her circle of friends
included high school and college classmates, and generations
in Orlando who knew and loved her as "Mimi". An
avid bridge player, Martha cherished the special company
of her bridge club friends for over 50 years. Music was
another passion of Martha's, and she enjoyed playing piano
for parties and Sunday school classes. She is survived by
family who will miss her greatly. Her children are Lauranne
Cash McCraw (Jack), John Thornton Cash, Jr. (Anna), Mary
Cash Anthony (Em), and Sidney Gaines Cash (Linda). Her grandchildren
include Laurie McCraw Stephens (Trip), Mellie McCraw O'Keefe
(Dan), Genie McCraw Hooper (Bill), John Thornton Cash, III
(Laurin), Leigh Ann Cash Horton (Vince), Carol Cash Giardi
(Tom), Bo Anthony (Kelly), Jack Anthony (Beth), Jimmy Anthony
(Shelley), Lyles Anthony Downs (Dan), Sid Cash, Jr. (Michelle),
and Lisa Cash Fleming (Brant); and 29 great-granchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Sydney Gaines Lanier;
and three nephews, all of West Point, GA. She leaves us
a legacy of love. A memorial service for Martha Cash Smith
will be held on Monday, July 7th, at 11 aM at the First
Baptist Church of Winter Park. In lieu of flowers, the family

FLEMING,
JAMES ROBERT, SR., 65, of Ocoee, passed away on
June 11, 2008, at Health Central in Ocoee. He was born June
9, 1943, the son of Elizabeth Lee Salisbury and Leo Russell
Fleming. He attended Ocoee Elementary, Ocoee Middle, Robert
E Lee Jr. High, Edgewater High and graduated from Winter
Park High School, Class of '61. Jim went to work in September
1967 with the Orlando Fire Department. After two serious
accidents, and because of failing health, he retired with
a medical disability in November 1980. He worked as a Code
Enforcement Officer for the City of St. Cloud, FL and retired
from the Florida Army National Guard, Second Battalion Unit.
This is the same unit of which his grandfather, Lt. Col.
Sam T. Salisbury, and his uncle, Major George Robert "Bob"
Salisbury II, were members. Jim was Second Vice Commander
of American Legion Post 109 of Ocoee and belonged to the
Veterans of Foreign War Post 4305 of Ocoee/Winter Garden.
Jim
is survived by his wife, Margaret Odom Fleming of Pocatello,
Idaho; sons, James Robert Jr., of Pocatello, Idaho, and
Joseph Randolf Fleming, Anthony, FL; mother, Betty S. Hager,
of Ocoee; sister, Elizabeth F. Boileau, of Melbourne, Sonya
Fleming Yost, of Winter Garden; brothers, Steven Hager,
Ocoee, LaWayne and Loran Fleming; and 7 grandchildren. Jim's
health had been failing for a number of years, suffering
with COPD, recently overcoming a MRSA infection at Shands
Hospital. He was a champion of causes for Americans with
Disabilities, of which he could repeat the Act word for
word. His wish is to have his cremains interred at the Florida
National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. A memorial service
is to be held on October 11, 2008, at the American Legion
Post 109 in Ocoee. Friends are invited. |
DITTMER,
JOSEPHINE ANN (NEE CAYLL), age
73, of Longwood, died April 17, 2008, of pancreatic cancer.
Husband, Theodore Dittmer, predeceased her in 1993. She
was born in Winter Park to Richard and Florence Cayll, where
she was a graduate of Winter Park High School and Rollins
College. She is survived by daughters Kaija Dittmer and
Ivee Dittmer and brothers William Cayll and Philip Cayll
(wife Ruth). She was involved with the arts all her life,
being most interested in watercolor painting and sculpture.
After graduating from college, she worked as a schoolteacher,
bookkeeper and co-owner of several businesses with her husband.
Josephine was active in her Winter Park High School alumni
association, her condominium association and her artistic
pursuits. Her ashes will be interred at Palm Cemetery in
Winter Park on May 3, 2008 at 11AM, open to all. In lieu
of flowers, contributions in memory of Josephine ("Jo")
Dittmer may be made to the Crealde School of Art in Winter

MERHILL,
HARRIETTE D., a longtime resident of Orlando, passed
away on April 16, 2008. She was born in New York City on
April 3, 1919. Her daughter Linda
Kay Mayo preceded her in death and she is survived
by her son-in-law George E. Mayo; her grandchildren, Frances
(Francie) K. Strong, and Scott A. Mayo; her great-grandchildren,
Kaylee, Zachary, Samantha, Rebecca; and her loving poodle-companion,
Ellie. She received her M.A. in Guidance Counseling from
Stetson University and was an A.C.E.I. fellow. She was an
educator and guidance counselor for Orange County Public
Schools for over 30 years. She developed many programs and
curriculums and published numerous child development articles
throughout her career and was a past President of Orange
County Counselors, Educators, and Supervisors. She was a
breeder and owner of miniature poodles. She was actively
involved in the Orlando Poodle Club and a founding member
of the Orlando Dog Training Club. She brought smiles and
love into the lives of others with both Project Pet Luv,
a volunteer visiting program for people and dogs who are
willing to share some of their time and love with others
not so fortunate and her volunteer work with Canine Companions
for Independence (CCI). The memorial service will be on
Sunday, April 20 at 1:30 PM at the First Unitarian Church,

MAY,
RICHARD WILLIAM, of Lakeland died on March 18,
2008 from heart failure. He was 89. Richard was born on
January 8, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Shaker
Heights. He graduated from Penn State University in 1941
with a B.S. Degree in Commerce and Finance. Richard served
as a Captain in the United States Army during World War
II and received the Bronze Star during the Battle of the
Bulge. After working for Minute Maid Corporation as Director
of Accounting for 18 years in the Orlando area, Richard
moved to Lakeland in 1968 where he was appointed Comptroller
and Director of Finance for the Florida Department of Citrus,
from which he retired in 1983. Richard served as an active
Elder for over 30 years in the Winter Park and Lakeland
Presbyterian Churches. He was currently a member of the
First United Methodist Church in Lakeland and regularly
attended Chapel Services at Carpenter's Estates, where he
and his wife have been long-time residents. Richard is survived
by his loving wife of 66 years, Grace H. May of Lakeland;
daughter, Sharon M. Austin
(Lynn) of Dallas, TX; son, Bruce W. May (Barbara) of Maitland,

MAYO,
COLONEL BOB, U.S. Air Force retired, flew west
on his last flight on Jan. 29, 2008, with his destination,
Heaven. He was born in Washington D.C. to Ed and Elva Mayo
on June 8, 1935.
Bob graduated from The Citadel as an electrical engineer
in 1957 and was commissioned in the Air Force. On Christmas
Eve of that year, Bob married the love of his life, Glenda.
Bob completed his fixed wing training and then helicopter
pilot training in 1959. Bob served as a pilot instructor
for the South Vietnam Air Force in the early 1960s. Subsequent
assignments included Korea; the Pentagon; Quantico, Va.;
Tactical Air Command (now Air Combat Command) at Langley,
Va.; with additional assignments in Reno, Nev.; Selma, Ala.;
Pennsylvania and Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Bob was selected
as the first commander of the reconstituted 20th. Special
Operations Squadron in 1976. During that time, Bob was instrumental
in forming the policies, procedures and training for the
crews of that famous squadron. Bob retired as Vice Wing
Commander at the 1st. Special Operations Wing, Hurlburt
Field, Fla., on Nov. 30, 1983, after 26 years, 6 months
service. Much of Bob's service was spent in Special Operations
where he held leadership positions at several levels. His
numerous awards and decorations include a Meritorious Service
Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force
Outstanding Unit award and a Vietnam Service award, to name
just a few. After retirement, Bob worked for Connelly Engineering
of Raleigh, N.C., and then the Eglin Air Force Base engineering
support companies of VSE, Inc., RMS Technologies, Semcor
Inc. and Titan Corporation. While his career revolved around
the helicopter world and contributions to combat rescue
and special operations missions, his life revolved around
his family. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Glenda
of Fort Walton Beach and his children and grandchildren.
His legacy includes his son, David Mayo and wife Lauri and
their sons, Drew and Jared as well as his daughter Elizabeth
Ann and her husband Bill Tasillo and their daughter Lauren
and son William. He is also survived by a brother, George
Mayo, of California and a sister, Camille Mentzer,
of Orlando and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was a life-long
Methodist and member of the Shalimar United Methodist Church.
Bob's contributions to his faith include roles as chairman
of the Pastor Parish Relationship Committee, Church Council
and Finance and Visitation Committee. Services will be with
full military honors at the Shalimar United Methodist Church
on Feb. 2, 2008, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Dr. Larry Bryars
officiating. A reception in the church will follow the ceremony.

LAWRENCE "LARRY" JOEL, 64. Larry was
killed in a single car accident on his way to a 'gig'
in Hamburg, Germany on January 30th. His official funeral
was in Hamburg February 7th, but there will also be a
celebration of his life in Hamburg on March 1st. It was
originally intended to celebrate his 65th birthday on
March 2nd. Larry is survived by his mother Dorothy of
Olympia, WA, his sister, Carol Mattix of Dallas, TX, his
children Debbie and Bruno who both live in Hamburg, and
his much-loved girlfriend Klaudia Meyer. There are two
nieces and one nephew in Dallas, their children and many
cousins.

I played in the Hamburg
Opera with Larry back in 1992 and just recently received
an email from a mutual friend and musician, as well, in
Hamburg that Larry has just passed away at 64 yrs of age.

the exact date but it was just a couple of days ago. Larry
was a great guy, great trumpet player and person and will
be dearly missed in the music world.

MARGARET R., 86, passed away from cancer on Sunday,
December 30, 2007. Margaret, "Peggy", was born
on October 2, 1921 in Punta Gorda, FL. She was married to
Robert K. Nidy for the past 66 years. Peggy is survived
by her husband, Robert Nidy; her son, Lynn
Nidy; her daughter, Roxanne Hinkle; her sister,
Dorothy Marconi; her brother, Richard Willis; her granddaughter,
Kathryn Cukier; her grandson, William Nidy; and her great-grandchildren,
Ariana and Alexander Cukier. Peggy lived in Florida throughout
her entire life. She began a career in fashion modeling
in Central Florida in the 1950's which she continued to
enjoy and participate in for well over three decades. Peggy
volunteered many thousands of hours of her time working
as a "Pink Lady" at Florida Hospital in Orlando,
and during that time became the president of the hospital's
auxiliary. After her years of volunteer work with Florida
Hospital she became a hostess, and traveling companion to
the contestants for the Miss Florida Pageant. She went on
to become one of the judges for the Miss Florida competition.
Peggy loved to travel extensively throughout her life, and
visited numerous foreign countries during her many travels.
Although she spoke only the English language, her bright
smile and gentle laughter made it possible for her to develop
wonderful friendships with people throughout the world.
She was a lifetime member of the National Wildlife Federation,
as well as the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals). Peggy made friends easily throughout
her lifetime, because her warmth and vitality made everyone
feel immediately at ease when they were in her presence.
She would want us to thank the entire staff of Regent's
Park for her care. Their devotion was focused on helping
her be as comfortable as possible, and to maintain her courage
and dignity throughout her remaining days with her loved
ones. Peggy's life will be celebrated in a memorial service
at 4PM, Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Newcomer Family Funeral

 SPELZHAUSEN,
FREDERICK "FRIENDLY FRED, FREDDIE, 88, Passed
away on Saturday, December 29, 2007. Born October 19, 1919,
in Brooklyn, NY. Married to Jean N. (Woodworth) Spelzhausen
on August 16, 1941, Married 66 years. Survived by: Jean
N. Spelzhausen, wife, Walter Spelzhausen, brother; Sharon
Bozarth and Susan Everhart, Daughters; Stephen Bozarth,
Ross Bozarth, and Ray Mehaffey, grandsons; Alex and Joshua
Bozarth and Chelsea Mehaffey, grandchildren; and nieces
and nephew. Fred moved to Cleveland, OH, from Brooklyn,
NY, at the age of six. He worked a dairy route for Glenville
Dairy while he was a student and after getting out of high
school. He was the class President his junior and senior
year at Mayfield High where he met his wife, Jean in homeroom.
He was in the US Army serving his country in New Guinea
and Australia during World War II as Staff Sergeant in charge
of mess hall cooks. In 1950 he moved his family from Cleveland
to Goldenrod, FL, joining his father and mother and his
brother's families. His father, who had always been in the
grocery business moved to Goldenrod in 1943 and purchased
a grocery store at the corner of Aloma and 15A (now 551)
40+ years ago. The family operated the store, Goldenrod
SuperX Market until its sale in 1986. During that time Fred
primarily ran the meat department as a butcher and in the
later years the catering and deli department. "Friendly
Fred " was very community minded being instrumental
in the formation of Goldenrod Civic Club, serving as its
President and the Goldenrod Volunteer Fire Department. He
helped raise the funds for the first fire truck and served
as a volunteer firefighter. Fred taught Sunday School for
many years at First United Methodist Church in Winter Park,
later moved to Aloma United Methodist Church. Presently
he is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando.
He was an active member of The Gathering of Men until 2006.
Fred also worked with Central Florida Helpline for nine
years as a phone counselor. He and his wife, Jean, have
lived at Winter Park Towers since April 1998. In lieu of

SPENCER,
OLGA FAY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December
12, 2007. She was born August 30, 1916 in Fillmore, KY.
She lived in the Winter Park area since 1947. She was predeceased
by her husband Lonnie Spencer with whom she shared a wonderful
marriage of 72 years. She was also predeceased by her eldest
daughter Anna Hjort of Cerro Gordo, IL and an infant son,
John Mark. She was highly esteemed and greatly admired by
all her family and friends, both for her kind words and
thoughtful deeds. She leaves behind five chilldren: Donald
(Miriam) Spencer, Rosemary Newton, Judy
(Richie) Braga, Kathy
Buffaloe, and Jimmy Spencer, all of the Orlando area. She
is and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial

VANWORMER,
LEE of Winter Spring, passed away Friday, December
7, 2007. Lee was the daughter of the late Mrs. Olive S.
VanWormer. Lee graduated from FSU with a B.S. in Social
Studies education and from UCF with a master's degree in
School Library Media. She worked for 32 years in the Orange
County School System as a teacher of the gifted and then
as a media specialist. Lee was elected Teacher of the Year
for her school in 1987. After 12 years of teaching, Lee
took a 2-year break to work in Colorado on a guest ranch.
During that time Lee tried white-water rafting, mountain
and rock climbing and horseback riding. When her mother
became ill, Lee moved back to the area and finished out
her teaching career. In 2000, just before retiring, Lee
purchased a home in the Tuskawilla area where she spent
her time working on the house and yard while taking breaks
to read, take walks, visit the malls, work at the church,
and take an occasional trip. Lee will be missed by many
as she was loved by all who knew her. Lee is survived by
her sister, Sandra. |
CARTER,
JOYCE STANBRA of Winter Park, passed away Friday,
November 23, 2007. She was born in Livermore, Iowa, on August
16, 1916, to Susan Soppeland Stanbra and William H. Stanbra.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband John E. Carter,
Jr. in 1990. The Carters owned Carter's Gifts and Luggage
on Park Avenue in Winter Park for 40 Years. She is survived
by daughters Susan Carter Ricks,
Tucker, GA, and Mary Carter Pottinger, Orlando; grandchildren
Mary James-Ricks, Carter Ricks, Katie Pottinger Fallon,
Virginia Pottinger Trabold, and Kristin Pottinger; six great-grandchildren.

LAWRENCE L. of Boca Raton died October 4, 2007
following a battle with lung cancer. He was born and raised
in Brooklyn, NY, graduated from Rollins College in Winter
Park and Stetson College of Law in St. Petersburg. Larry
practiced law in Boca Raton for 27 years, served as Chairman
of the Chamber of Commerce and President of the South Palm
Beach County Bar Association. Larry is survived by his wife
of 45 years, Mary Carter LaValle,
daughter Julie (Kevin) Kern, son Carter (Wendy) Lavalle,
daughter Maria Lavalle and granddaughters Sarah and Carter
Anne Kern. He is also survived by his sisters Susan Fabbricatore,

GOINS,
ANGELA "ANGEL" KRISTINE, 37, of Orlando,
FL, died unexpectedly on August 23, 2007 in Charlotte, NC.
She was a computer software consultant with Sungard Higher
Education. She graduated with a degree in psychology from
the University of Central Florida and received Masters degrees
from both the University of Central Florida and Rollins
College. Angel overcame many obstacles created by her physical
disability, inspiring everyone who knew her. Although her
congenital bone disease left her confined to a wheelchair
from an early age, she never allowed her disease to limit
her throughout her education and career. Angel loved to
travel, and her outgoing personality enabled her to develop
friendships wherever she went. Angel was a very creative
woman with many talents. She was an accomplished artist
whose many paintings and crafts filled the homes of those
she loved. Her singing voice was beautiful and it gave expression
to her lifelong love of music. Angel also entertained family
and friends with her sharp wit and lively sense of humor
that could fill any room with laughter. Angel's greatest
love in life was her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
They were drawn to her imagination, warmth, and endless
sense of fun. She was in the process of relocating to Charlotte,
NC to be closer to her brothers and their families at the
time of her death. Survivors include Angel's parents, Jerry
and Sharon (Hayes) Goins
of Orlando, FL; brother, Phillip Goins and his wife, Beverley
of Charlotte, NC; brother, Dr. Alan Goins and his wife,
Natasha of Charlotte, NC; nephews, Zachary, Cade, and Spenser;
nieces, Kiele and Kyra, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins
and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who love her.

COTTRELL,
EMMA MAE, age 89, of Orlando, passed away Monday,
June 18, 2007. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, February 25, 1918,
she moved to Maitland from Falls Church, VA in 1960. Mrs.
Cottrell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of
Maitland, the Marlando Club, and the Maitland Women's Club.
She was an avid bridge player and belonged to numerous bridge
clubs. Known for her charitable spirit, she spent hours
crocheting lap robes for wheel chair bound children and
adults. Most recently she knitted baby hats for BETA House.
She volunteered her time at the Cottage Thrift Shop for
many years and afterward at Orlando Lutheran Towers where
she lived since 2004. An excellent cook, Emma enjoyed cooking
for family and friends, never idle, slow to anger, quick
to laugh and love. We will miss her dearly. Mrs. Cottrell
is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline
"Jackie" and Vincent Hughes, Orlando,
Stacy J. and Carl Carden, Chuluota; son, Edward J. "Ward"
Cottrell III, Winter Park; five grandchildren and five great
grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. She was predeceased
by her husband of 64 years, Edward J. Cottrell. The family
will receive friends Thursday, June 21, 2007 from 4-6:30PM

LEE PATTERSON ("Lee Pat"), age 66, whose
first retirement was from Eckerd Drugs as a register pharmacist
and his second from Omni Care as a consultant pharmacist,
died Saturday, June 9, 2007. He is survived by his wife
of 44 years, Susan Keller
Strickland. The service will be at 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday
at Thomasville Road Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers,

KELLY,
STELLA EILEEN, (“Kelly”) passed away
in her home, the Shamrock Chateau in Gainesville, GA on
Sunday, March 25, 2007. Kelly was born in Orlando on July
24, 1947 to Homer and Carinel Kelly who predeceased her.
She graduated from Winter Park High School, Winter Park,
FL and Jones Business College in Jacksonville, FL, and returned
to Orlando to work for Martin Marietta. Fulfilling a need
to expand her horizons, she began a 33-year career with
Delta Airlines as a flight attendant. During those years,
Kelly traveled the world while living in both San Francisco
and Atlanta. In 1980, she bought a structure built in 1945
that had once been a general store, gas station and beauty
parlor. She enjoyed renovating it into the Shamrock Chateau,
both her home and a bed and breakfast inn located at Lake
Sidney Lanier. She met her husband Ray in 1990, and together
they continued to renovate the Shamrock Chateau and to travel
the waters of the Southeast in their boat, Panfilo. Kelly
was diagnosed with a very invasive breast cancer in 1993,
and she was an inspiration to her family and friends by
continuing on with her very active life, despite the difficulties
imposed by the disease. Kelly is survived by her husband
Ray Stang and his son Christopher Stang, her sister Susan
Kelly Simasek and her husband Regis Simasek,
her niece Karen Simasek-Santos and her husband Alex Santos,
her nephew Regis Martin Simasek, her sister-in-law Susan
Caspar, her five great nieces and nephews, and her many
friends who she loved and cherished. Kelly's body will be
cremated. The date of her wake and a celebration of her
life will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, the family

| SPENCER, LONNIE,
age 91, of Winter Park, passed away February 16, 2007. Born
July 31, 1915 in Stanton, KY. He moved to Florida in 1948,
working first for the Florida Times-Union then 30-years
for the Orlando Sentinel before retiring in 1881. He was
a founding member of the Central Florida Classical Guitar
Society. He is survived by his wife, Fay, with whom he shared
a wonderful marriage of 72 years; sons, Donald and James;
daughters, Rosemary, Judy
and Kathy; sister, Lorene; and many grandchildren, great
grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, nieces and
nephews. His eldest daughter, Anna, preceded him in death.
He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held
Saturday, February 24th at 11 AM at the First Christian
Church of Winter Park. |
| BOHANNON,
KATHARINE USSERY, 87, a resident of Orlando since
1956, died in Ocala, FL on February 15, 2007. She was born
to William Thomas and Odessa McManus Ussery in Red Springs,
NC, and lived there until entering nurses' training and
receiving her R.N. at Thompson Memorial Hospital in Lumberton,
NC, subsequent to her attending Flora MacDonald College.
Katharine married E.L. (Roy) Bohannon, a professional baseball
player and, later, restaurateur, a marriage of 56 years.
She relished her role as mother of their three children
and also enjoyed a personally rewarding professional career
in nursing. Mrs. Bohannon is survived by her daughter, Mrs.
Martha B. Williams of Ocala, FL; sons, Mr. William C. Bohannon
of Tarpon Springs, FL and Dr. E.
Lee Bohannon of Naples, FL; her sisters Mrs.
Mildred U. Wilson and Miss Joan Ussery, both of Laurinburg,
NC; her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A family
graveside ceremony will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery
in Orlando with Robert Bryant Funeral Home providing services.

GEORGE WILLIAM, 65, of Honolulu, a meteorologist,
died in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was born in Jacksonville,
Fla. He is survived by brother J.
Cheney and sister Jean C. Ferguson. Mr. Mason
was a longtime Hawaii surf forecaster and Honolulu resident.
George Mason, missing since the first week of November,
has been found dead according to Highsurfwarning.com,
his place of employment. According to his blog, Mr. Mason
published the first regular surf forecast in the Honolulu
Advertiser in 1975, and subsquently had a lasting and
versatile career as a surf forecaster. Working first as
a television and radio meteorologist, he went on to forecast
for Surfline.com in Hawaii for over 12 years. Mr. Mason
has also done weather consulting for films like Point
Break, Jurassic Park, Waterworld and 6 Days 7 Nights.

SHOUP, JR., RICHARD C., age 98, of Langholm
Drive, Winter Park, died January 28, 2007, in Commerce,
Georgia. Mr. Shoup was born in Manhatten Island, New York,
New York, to the late Richard C. and Pearl Peck Shoup. Mr.
Shoup was a member of The First Church of Christ Scientist,
Winter Park. Mr. Shoup was a graduate of Georgia Tech and
played in the band. As a teenager he was asked to play in
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. He was an accomplished pianist.
Mr. Shoup relocated to Winter Park 50 years ago and was
very active in his church. As a member of The First Church
of Christ Scientist, Winter Park, he held many positions
including First Reader, Superintendent of the Sunday School
and Chairman of the Board. He was a manufacturer's representative
for several major toy companies. Mr. Shoup's hobbies were
bridge, rummy and golf. He played golf until the age of
94. His strength was his ability to never worry about the
past, present or future and to enjoy life each and every
day and to “never harbor a negative thought.”
In addition to his parents, Mr. Shoup is preceded in death
by wife, Virginia Phillips Shoup. Mr. Shoup is survived
by his son, William D. Shoup of Winter Park; daughter, Constance
S. Hudson of Braselton, GA; grandchildren, Virginia
A. Borsavage of Spring Hill, TN, Mary A. Love of DeBary,
Jody E. Hudson of Bethlehem, GA, and Jonathan W. Hudson
of New Haven, CT. Memorial services will be held February
17, 2007, graveside, from the Palm Cemetery, Winter Park,
at 11AM. The family, along with Marilyn Patterson, a close
friend from church, will be officiating the services. Interment
will be in the PaIm Cemetery.

MCMILLAN-MCTAVISH, SUZANNE WILLIAMS, 63,
of Sedona, Arizona died as a result of injuries sustained
in an automobile accident. Suzanne holds a BA in Art from
Eckerd College. She received her Holistic Health Practitioner
and Massage certification in 1979 from Heartwood College
in Santa Cruz, CA. Suzanne is survived by son Vincent Charles
and daughter Donna Tina Charles. Suzanne was on a pilgrimage
for spiritual seekers. For 20 years, she led spiritual quests
across the United States, Canada and Mexico, on what she
described as an adventure of the heart. Suzanne was reunited
with her high school classmates at a 45th class reunion.
She described her class reunion as one of the most memorable
experiences of her lifetime. She will be missed.

JOHN 'JACK' E., 86 of Leesburg and long time resident
of Winter Park and Sapphire, NC passed away on August 7,
2006. Jack was born on August 26 1919 in Buffalo, NY, the
son of John and Bessie Smith. His brother, Frank J. Smith
and his wife, Bette Smith predeceased him. Surviving family
members include; son, David
(Jan) Smith of Leesburg;
daughter, Debbie (Todd) Woodhull of Bedford, NH; brother,
Robert (Barb) Smith of Tarpon Springs; sister Olive Bradigan
of Lake Mary; grandchildren, Jennifer Landry, Amy Smith
Ely, Erin Smith Hockett, Josh Woodhull and Elizabeth Kraft;
and great grandchildren, Emma Landry, Jarrett Ely and Keira
Ely. Jack was a long time member of All Saints' Episcopal
Church, Winter Park where he served on the vestry, was Senior
and Junior Warden, and a member of the Brotherhood of St.
Andrew. Jack played football at and graduated with a B.S.
degree with honors from the University of Buffalo in 1942.
He was a member of Bison Head, the University's academic
and leadership society. In 1952, he began his work as an
independent insurance agent with Varner, Butler and Smith
in Winter Park. Soon Jack opened his own agency, Jack E.
Smith and Associates, Inc., where he worked until his retirement.
Jack was an active member of business and civic organizations
in Winter Park, including: Jaycees, Lions' Club, Chamber
of Commerce, City Commission, Chairman of the Orange County
Republican Party, a founder of the Winter Park Memorial
Hospital, Little League Coach and many others. He was a
member of the Winter Park Racquet Club, The Country Club
of Orlando and Rio Pinar Country Club. A memorial service
will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 11:00 am at
St. James Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial
may be made to Hospice of Lake/Sumter Co., 12300 Lane Park

BURKE,
NANCY PATTISON SCHMIDT, 86, of Winter Park, and
Plantation, died suddenly on July 27, 2006. Nancy was born
and raised in Mt. Vernon, NY where her father, Edwin Pattison,
was a prominent elected official and founder of the Trinity
Episcopal Church. She married Gustave H. Schmidt of Englishtown,
NJ in 1942. Nancy and Gus moved to Winter Park in 1951 where
they owned Toy Town, one of the first toy stores in Orlando.
After 37 wonderful years of marriage and raising three children,
Gus died. Nancy felt so fortunate to meet and marry James
McDonald Burke in 1980, who she cherished for the last 26
years along with all their children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Nancy loved to travel. She was proud of her
education and work as a registered nurse. Nancy maintained
the history of the family including extensive photographic
documentation. She loved to play bridge and she won many
tournaments, the most recent only a few weeks before her
death. A memorial service was held in Plantation on July
30, 2006 so that her many friends in South Florida could
honor her memory and console her husband and family. Nancy's
beloved daughter, Linda Rhodes,
died in January of this year and she continued to grieve
her loss. Her sister, Edna Read, also predeceased her. Nancy
is survived by her loving husband, Don of Plantation, and
her treasured children, Judith Kyle (Jan) and Fred Schmidt
(Pam), both of Tallahassee, Donald Burke of Longwood, and
Steve Burke (Karen) of Sacramento, CA. She is also survived
by her 12 wonderful, loving grandchildren, Spencer Rhodes
(Tracy) of Winter Park, Judith Smeller (Don) of Winter Park,
Jennifer Rhodes of New York City, Steven Bierenbaum (Doreen)
of Orlando, Rachel Larsen (Chris) of Hillsborough, NC, Beth
Ruiz (Jose) of Durham, NC, Kristen Rayner of Kalamazoo,
MI, Emily Schmidt of Ponte Vedra, James Burke (Jennifer)
of Apopka, Niki Laguardia of Winter Park, Ryan Burke and
Travis Burke of Sacramento, CA. Nancy's values and traditions
will be carried on by her ten great grandchildren, Dylan,
Tristan and Juliet Rhodes, Ben Smeller, Hannah and Ellen
Larsen, Benjamin Bierenbaum, Madeline Szikney, Alexis Fernandez,
and Kendrick Laguardia. Funeral services will be held on
Friday, August 4th at All Saints Episcopal Church, 338 East
Lyman Avenue, Winter Park at 10:30AM with interment at the
Palm Cemetery immediately following the service. Arrangements

GOUCK,
PETER E., 60, of Broadway in North Attleboro, died
Friday, July 14, 2006 in his home after a three-year battle
with renal cancer. He was the husband of the late Cynthia
Jane (Craik) Gouck. Born March 19, 1946 in Savannah, Ga.,
he was a son of the late Harry Kydd and Miriam (Bagley)
Gouck. Peter has been a resident of North Attleboro for
over 30 years and was a graduate of Gainesville High School
in Florida, and later received a bachelor's of arts degree
from Roger Williams College in Rhode Island and a master's
of arts degree in communications from Boston University.
He worked at National Fence in North Attleboro for over
10 years and had previously worked for Bob Adams Inc. in
Randolph for three years and Bird Machine in Walpole for
15 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years, serving
on the USS Shenandoah. Peter was a longtime member of the
finance committee in North Attleboro and was an Eagle Scout
and Pack 9 Cub Master. He was an avid bicyclist and model
train enthusiast, and was a member of the Townie Golf League
at Chemawa Golf Course. His survivors include two sons,
Eric Kydd Gouck and Neal Harry Gouck, both of North Attleboro;
a sister, Polly (Gouck) Hall
of Georgia.; two daughters-in-law, Melanie (Brintnall) Gouck
and Sally (Clark) Gouck; a grandson, Griffin Peter Gouck;
and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are
invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, July 22 from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home,
15 Grove St., North Attleboro. A Memorial service will be
held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home following the visiting

LILLIAN H., 84, died on Monday, May 1, 2006 in
Charlotte, NC. Lillian lived in Charlotte for the past six
years and before was a longtime resident of Orlando. She
was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal in Orlando and
became an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Church
while living in Charlotte. Lillian was born on July 29,
1921 in Asheville, NC, daughter of the late Herman and Bessie
Holcombe. She was the oldest of four children. She and her
late husband, Jack Barger, had owned a Krispy Kreme doughnut
shop for many years in Orlando. After they sold the business,
Lillian went on to be a cafeteria food service employee
for the school district for twelve years. Her husband, Jack
Barger, and her son Ronald Barger preceded Mrs. Barger in
death. Also, two brothers, Herbert and Bill Holcombe preceded
Mrs. Barger. Two daughters, Wanda
Sellers and husband, Don of Mt. Gilead, NC and
Ann Calhoun and husband, Leonard of San Diego, CA, survive
her. Daughter-in-law, Sharon Barger resides in Ormond Beach,
eight grandchildren, Sue Brock and husband Chuck, Marcia
Chumas and husband John, Michael Sellers and wife Amy, Sandi
Fuller, Sam Barger, Jack Barger and wife Julie, Barry and
Bryan Webb. Nine grandchildren, Chris, Matt, and Madeline
Chumas, Alex and McKensey Brock, Carlie Carson, Cierra Sellers,
and Joshua Barger. Her sister, Irene, and husband Bill Kelly

LAVELLE M., 92, of Winter Park passed away on Monday,
March 27, 2006 at Florida Living Nursing Center in Apopka.
She was born August 30, 1913, in Knoxville, TN. Mrs. Siewert
was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist
Church. She was the daughter of the late Ralph McSwain and
Amelia (Crews) McSwain. She is survived by her son, Dennis
E. Siewert; daughter, Peggy S. Nash; five grandchildren
and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
her husband of 65 years, Edmond Ernest Siewert; brother,
John McSwain and a sister, Ruth Dyson. A Graveside Service
will be held at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park on Friday,

RHODES,
LINDA SCHMIDT, 62, of Winter Park, passed away
on January 13, 2006. She was born on October 23, 1943 in
Neptune, NJ to Gus and Nancy Schmidt. She moved to Winter
Park at age nine, and graduated from Winter Park High School
and Rollins College. After completing postgraduate work
in medical technology at Duke University, Linda married
Richard Rhodes and devoted herself to raising their three
children. She was preceded in death by her beloved father.
She is survived by a son, Spencer Rhodes of Winter Park;
two daughters, Judith Smeller of Winter Park and Jennifer
Rhodes of New York City; three cherished grandchildren,
Dylan, Tristan and Juliet; her mother, Nancy Burke; a brother,
Fred Schmidt; a sister, Judy Kyle; and many other loving
family members. A funeral service will be held Thursday,
January 19, 2006, at 3PM at All Saints Episcopal Church.

JAMES PORTER, 62, passed away September 27, 2005
at home surrounded by family, after a long illness. Mr.
Crosby entered the Army in 1961 and served three years.
He retired from Bellsouth after 36 years of service. He
is survived by his wife of 35 years, whom he loved and depended
upon, Flora L. Crosby; his four children, Tanya Wiebe (Wes),
Patricia Tatum (Glenn), Roy Davis (Jeff Kozak), Sylvia Crosby
(Terry Poole); and eight grandchildren that he loved dearly,
Amanda Wiebe, Madison Wiebe, Brandon Wiebe, Michael Evans
(Brandi), J.T. Evans, Reese Carpenter, Jackie Wright, Samantha
Poole, and one great grandchild due in April by Michael
and Brandi. Also survived by three siblings Jean Crosby,
Sylvia Welch, Jay Crosby. Two brothers-in-law and wives,
Donald (Rhonda) Leske, Raymond (Jean) Menendez; and many
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother,

BERGEN
SR., RICHARD S., Richard Sammis Bergen Sr., 87, Winter
Park, a descendant in a direct line from the Dutch colonists
who settled in America prior to 1675, passed away August
4, 2005. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church,
retired employees association of Lockheed-Martin, SIGMA
PI SIGMA, and SIGMA ALPHA. He was a radio amateur and an
avid tennis player. His brother William precedes him in
death. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sheila;
son, Richard S.
(Marianne) Bergen Jr.;
brother, Wilbur Bergen; grandsons, James R. (Sabrina) Bergen,
Michael S. Bergen; great grandsons Ethan and Colin. There

Dear Friends,
For those of you who are
not already aware, we wanted to let you know that Bob's
and Lynne's mother, Kathleen Ricks, died peacefully yesterday,
July 12, of congestive heart failure.
Kathleen was hospitalized
on June 14 and was then transferred to Haven House Hospice
on June 18 where she spent her final days.
In keeping with her wishes,
Kathleen's body will be cremated and a memorial service
will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2005. As preparations
for this are still in process, details regarding the time
and location will follow later this week.

 MARWICK,
MARION, 81, died at her home on June 30, 2005, surrounded
by her family. Born in Hamilton, Ontario Canada, she was
a gifted pianist and well known figure in the music community.
As a girl and young woman, she competed and won many musical
competitions on many levels and performed throughout the
area, both solo and with various orchestras, including the
Toronto Symphony Orchestra. She was a graduate of the Toronto
Conservatory. During and after WWII, she served as studio
pianist for several major radio stations both in Canada,
New York and Orlando. She performed with the Orlando Symphony
during the first Pops Concert series playing Carnival of
the Animals with friend and fellow artist, Chuck Cochran.
Marion was, above all, the consummate piano teacher. While
affiliated with Rollins College in the Community Arts program,
she was instrumental in introducing the Pace Piano system
to the area and traveled for many years to conduct clinics
nationally with Robert Pace. She also instigated the summer
camp program for children, which still continues today.
She was innovative in her teaching methods and as the co-founder
of Creative Keyboards, she and her partner, Maryanne Nagy,
published a series of piano method books used throughout
the country. Her students covered several generations and
she continued to teach until shortly before her death. She
was preceded in death by her mother and father, William
and Anna Hogan, and her brother, William Hogan, all of Hamilton,
Ontario, Canada. She is survived by her loving husband,
Robert L. Marwick; children, Heather
(Don) Griffin, Marnie (Michael)
Connor, Robert (Gloria) Marwick, Beth (Bert) Hathaway and
Mary Cosper. She was grandma to 13 and great-grandma to
ten, with three on the way. There will be a memorial service
Friday July 8, 2005 at 4PM at CAREY HAND COX-PARKER FUNERAL

EDNA LEE, 87, of Winter Park, passed away June 22, 2005.
She was born in Mayo, FL to Addie and Bertha Mills. Preceded
in death by her husband, Hildry V. Shiver. She is survived
by her son, Edwin and his wife Sandy Shiver of Longwood;
her daughter, Gwen and her husband Leo Gecewicz of Hendersonville,
NC; and her daughter, Jeannette
and her husband George Karl, III of Casselberry; grandsons,
Kevin, George IV, Michael, David, Matthew, Jeffrey; great
granddaughters, Shaina and Lara; great grandson, Ashton.
The Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2005

| DELVICH,
LYNNE, R.N., 62, a well respected and liked member
of the nursing and social services communities of Ridgecrest
and Apopka, Fla. passed away Wendesday June 15 2005 at Ridgecrest
Regional Hospital. At her request there will be no services
but donations in her memory may be made to one's favorite
charity. Ms. Delvich was born June 10, 1943 in Baltimore,
Md. She graduated from Winter Park (Fla.) High School in
1962. She first took up residency in the Ridgecrest area
in the late 1960s as a data technician for Stencel Aero
Engineering on the EA-6B Escape System SNORT test project
at the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake. It was then she
developed her lifelong love of fishing and camping in the
mountains and deserts of California. In the 1970s she moved
to Apopka, Fla. to support her parent's agricultural enterprises
and to study nursing, becoming both a registered nurse and
obtaining a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University
of Central Florida in 1990. Along with managing the family
business she put her skils to work in Florida's Migrant
Workers Health Programs and aided UCF in setting up a nurse
internship with the migrant health program, so that student
nurses could experience working in the community before
graduation. She held registered nurse licenses in both Florida
and California. After a few years her love of the Eastern
Sierra Nevada mountains and the Bristlecone country called
her to move back to California where she continued her medical
and social services vocation including teaching at Cerro
Coso Community College, nursing at Ridgecrest Community
Hospital, the Indian Health Program in Lone Pine, the Ridgecrest
Beverly Manor and assisting the handicapped clients of the
non-profit DART organization. Her contributions to these
communities and organizations will be sorely missed. She
was preceded in death by her mother Cora Delvich, and grandparents
Anna and William Delvich and Cora and Hugh Mathaney. She
is survived by her father Raymond Delvich, her sister Bonnie

LYNN FURR, 62, Venice, died June 13, 2005. She was born
Oct. 14, 1942, in Nashville, Tenn., and came to Venice in
1965 from Clearwater. She retired in 1991 after 11 years
as a Realtor for Michael Saunders and was a former dental
hygienist. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Richard G. of Nokomis;
sons Trey and Kris, both of Atlanta, and Chuck and Bobbi,
both of Tallahassee; a sister, Leslie Meffert of Marble,
N.C.; her father, Charles L. Furr of Melbourne; and four
grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday

BALDWIN,
EDGAR MAYNARD, 92, Mayflower Court, Winter Park, died
on Sunday, June 12, 2005 peacefully at home. Maynard was
born in Orlando November 21, 1912 and was a lifelong resident
of Central Florida. He was a 1931 graduate of Winter Park
High School and attended University of Florida. Maynard
served in the Army Air Corps during WW II as a radar technician.
He was a member of First Congregational Church Winter Park
for over 80 years and served on the City Commission for
two terms during the 1960's. He owned and operated Baldwin
Hardware Company on Park Avenue which was started in 1925,
until 1972. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years,
Mozelle; his son, Russell "Rusty"; daughter-in-
law, Meg; three grandchildren, Michael (Maria) Baldwin,
Kelly (Todor) Angov, and Anne M. Baldwin; one great grandchild,
Christopher Michael Baldwin, all of the Orlando area. He
was preceded in death by his loving parents and brother
Richard O. Baldwin. Memorial celebration of life will be
4PM Thursday, June 16 at First Congregational Church, Winter
Park, with The Reverends Bryan Fulwider and Dr. James Armstrong

 WINSLOW,
KAREN JOY, 92, of Winter Park, passed away on June 9,
2005, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She
was born in Daytona Beach, August 14, 1912. As a teenager,
she studied art in Chicago and New York. She graduated from
Florida State College for Women (now FSU) in 1934 and began
her teaching career in Daytona Beach, and then moved to
Orlando and taught at the old Memorial Junior High. She
later served as a traveling art teacher for Orange County,
and was an instructor in the Rollins Continuing Education
Program, Her career culminated at Winter Park High School,
where she created the Art Department and taught Art and
English there until her retirement in 1971. She loved the
interaction with her students, and on numerous occasions
former students returned to thank her for the advice and
council she had provided in their lives. She served on the
original committee that established the Winter Park Sidewalk
Art Festival. In 1940, she married Kenelm Winslow of Winter
Park. He preceded her in death in 1972. She is survived
by her son, Dennis Kenelm Winslow and his wife Susan of
Philadelphia and their three children, Allie, Rachel, and
Jessie, and by her son, Bruce Edward Winslow and his wife
Ginny of Maitland, and their two children, Sterling and
Dawn. She is also survived by her sisters, Peggy Johnson
and Jean Moores of Daytona Beach, and Wanda Schlinker of
Tampa. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that
donations be made in memory of Joy Winslow to the Winter
Park High School Foundation, 2100 Summerfield Road, Winter

JOY HARDY, 61, of Summerfield died Wednesday, June 8,
2005. Mrs. Marshall was an O.R. nurse. Born in Keene Valley,
New York she moved to Lady Lake from Saudi Arabia in 1993.

Leesburg Women's Bowling Association, the Florida Bowling
Queen Association and was active in the Church Choir. Survivors

MCMILLAN,
ASHA CATHERINE "GILLY" WILLIAMS, 93,
of Hendersonville, NC died Friday, May 20, 2005. Born May
30, 1911, in Wallace, Mrs. McMillan was one of seven children
of the late Bathsheba Mallard Carr Williams and David Henry
Williams. She was the wife of the late George Francis McMillan,
who passed away in 1999, and at the time of his death, they
had been married for 68 years. Together they were partners
not only in life, but in profession. They were in the mercantile
business and owned various furniture businesses in both
North Carolina and Florida. They were also the developers
of Friendly Acres in Wallace and McMillan Hidden Valley
in Hendersonville. Mrs. McMillan was a prior resident of
Orlando, FL, Greensboro, Fayetteville and Wallace before
moving to Hendersonville in 1969. A lifetime member of the
Presbyterian Church, she was a strong supporter of the church
and other charitable causes. Always with a smile on her
face and a kind word to greet you, she set a positive example
for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren
to follow. She was a strong, courageous, and yet gentle
woman who brought out the good in all those who were near
and dear to her. She is survived by one son, Rev. George
Jarvis McMillan of Hendersonville; two daughters, Kathryn
Doris McMillan Faires and husband Rev. Archie Brown Faires
of Decatur, Texas, and Suzanne McMillan
of Sedona, Arizona; one sister, Edith Wells of Wallace;
ten grandchildren, Claire McMillan, Cindy McMillan, Mary

E. "ED", Age 82, of Tampa and Orlando, died
on Thursday, April 28, 2005. Father of William
E. and Robert H. McGinnis and Elisabeth M. Bulloch.
Also survived by nine grandchildren and one great grandson.
During his pioneering career in electronic warfare, he helped
develop the earliest radar-jamming equipment in the Pacific
during WWII. He then held positions at the National Security
Agency (NSA), MELPAR, the Martin Company, the MITRE Corp.,
the Central Intelligence Agency and the University of South
Florida. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1949 and received
his Master's degree in electrical engineering from M.I.T.
in 1954. A Memorial Service will be held at Murphy's Falls
Church Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St. (Rt. 7), Falls Church,
VA, on Sunday, June 26, 2005 at 4PM. His ashes will be inurned,

She was born Sept. 15, 1938 in Orlando. Nancy is survived

all of Florida; and her grandchildren, Kimberly, Tyler,
Robin, Rachel, Chanel, Domonique and great grandchildren,

death by a son, Keith R. Joy in 1982. Also surviving is
her loving companion and best friend, Dale Ward. Nancy graduated

MORRIS, 83, of Altamonte Springs passed away, September

Kay Morris of Longwood. She was a widow of Major Max A.
Morris, who was killed in Korea, when she married Roy W.

"BILL", Memorial services for Justin Orrin
"Bill" Lucius, 88, who passed away on Friday,
Sept. 17 will be held on Tues., Sept. 28 at 11AM at the
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in DeLand. A native Floridian,
Mr. Lucius was born in Orlando on October 20, 1915 and graduated
from Orlando High in 1933. He worked for Florida Power in
Orlando as an Electrical Engineer until his retirement on
November 1, 1971 in DeLand. His major love was his boat
and trips in it with family and friends down the St. John's
River where the roots of his childhood were. He was a member
of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Winter Park and St.
Barnabas Episcopal Church in DeLand. He is survived by his
sister, Laura Lou Gregg of Chattanooga, TN; two daughters,
Bette Jane (Baumhower)
of Fern Park and Ann Simmons of Winston-Salem, NC; six grandchildren,
Justina Colville, Tallahassee, Jane Osterndorf, College
Park, Jennifer Trahan, Christopher Simmons, Michael Simmons,
Robert Simmons, all of North Carolina; seven great- grandchildren;

DIXON, ALICE K.
(ECKARDT), of Orlando died on August 1, 2004, at age
87, at The Palms of Maitland where she had been residing
for two years. She was a duplicate bridge enthusiast, a
Life Master with the ACBL, a duplicate bridge director,
and founded the Grand Slam Bridge Club originally in Orlando,
and then in Winter Park. She taught duplicate bridge to
many people in Central Florida, having started beginning
and intermediate duplicate bridge games. The Grand Slam
Club was one of the first tenants at the new Winter Park
Civic Center on Morse Boulevard, and remained a tenant with
games six days a week until her health forced her to sell
her club. Sadly, her memory problems prevented her from
continuing to play duplicate bridge. She graduated from
Antioch College and attained a Masters of Arts in Teaching
degree from Rollins College. She was a member of Emmanuel
Episcopal Church since the late 1950s. She was predeceased
by her beloved son, David Lorand
Eckardt, M.D., and her husband, Col. O.H. Dixon.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Donahue, son-in-law,
Allan Donahue, and granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Donahue.
She had wanted to be a medical doctor like her grandfather
and her twin brothers, but her mother convinced her that
a woman doctor would not have any patients. As a result,
she was always supportive of organizations which worked
toward opportunities for women. The family requests, in
lieu of flowers, donations be made to organizations which
help women or to Emmanuel Episcopal Church. A memorial service

HARMELING, RUTH
C., age 83, formerly of Winter Park and Maitland, passed
away July 7, 2004. Ruth was born August 19, 1920 to Jacob
Houmes and Katherine Daane Houmes. Her daughter, Barbara
Lyn Harmeling, preceded her in death. Ruth is survived by
sons, Tom (Judy) of
Lake Wales, Kent (Jackie) of Orlando, Mike (Debbie) of Lake
Wales, John (Kay) of Jacksonville, Rick (Tina) of Lakeland,
and daughters Kay Kemmer (Mike) of Ormond Beach and Patte
Holdorff (Bruce) of Polk City. In addition to her loving
children, she is survived by 28 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was a graduate of Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
She taught for a year prior to marrying and starting her
family. Ruth loved her church, and in her early years, played
piano and taught Sunday school. She was a wonderful cook,
to which all her children and grandchildren will attest.
Ruth was an avid bridge player and had played at least once
a week with the same group for the past 35 years. She had
many friends across the states that she corresponded with
regularly. In her spare time Ruth was often found doing
needlework. Among family and friends, she was well known
for her handmade Christmas ornaments and cloth dolls. A
memorial service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2004, at
First Baptist Church of Maitland, 1950 Mohican Trail. Call

MRS. REGINA ANN JONES (Jeannie), 62, of 117 Lillian
Drive, Statesville, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at the
Statesville Brian Nursing Center. She was born Feb. 26,
1942, in Cabarrus County, and was the daughter of the
late Sam William Jones and Georgia Lillian Frye Jones.
She was a graduate of Winter Park High School, Winter
Park, Fla., and had attended DeKalb Tech College in Decatur,
Ga. She was a self-employed artist and was a former member
of Western Avenue Baptist Church. She is survived by one
son, Brian D. Richards of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; a sister,
Joyce J. Hendricks of Greensboro; her former husband and
friend, Dale Richards of Hickory; a niece, Stephanie Plain;
and nephews, John S. Hendricks, Jeff W. Hendricks and
Chris K. Hendricks. Memorial funeral services will be
conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, in Nicholson
Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James D. Cartin officiating.

McGINNIS, CHRISTINE
H., age 81, of Tampa, Orlando, and Northern Virginia,
died on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the home of her daughter
in Mission Viejo, CA. She is survived by her husband of
62 years, Charles E. (Ed) McGinnis; two sons, William
E. McGinnis, of Alexandria VA, and Robert H.
McGinnis, of Great Falls, VA; one daughter, Elisabeth M.
Bulloch, of Mission Viejo, CA; nine grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild. Christine McGinnis led a long and influential
life, raising her own three children and personally touching
the lives of hundreds of other people. She was active in
the leadership of service organizations wherever she lived,
serving as President of the New Tampans, Tampa FL; the Marlando
Club, Orlando, FL; the Falls Church Junior Women's Club,
Falls Church, VA; the American Embassy Wives Association,
London, England; and others. Her motto was, "Bloom
where you are planted." Death was caused by circulatory
problems aggravated by emphysema. The body was cremated
on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Saddleback Mortuary, Tustin,
CA. Services were private. The family requests that memorial
contributions be made to a charity of your choice.

LANSING-JONES, SHIRLEY of LUDLOW - Shirley Lansing-Jones,
61, died May 13, 2004, at her residence. She was born Nov.
10, 1943, in Georgia. Shirley was a loving wife, mother
and friend to all that knew her. Gardening was her passion,
be it herbs, flowers or vegetables. She is survived by her
husband, Mark Lansing-Jones of Ludlow; one son, Christian
Holmes and his wife, Carolyn, of S. Windsor, Conn.; one
daughter, Michelle Holmes of Ludlow; two grandchildren,
Sean and Kevin Holmes of S. Windsor, Conn; two brothers,
Claude and Larry Deaton, both of Orlando, Fla.; special
friend, Danny Bordonaro. Services will be announced in July.

MILLER,
ARTHUR E., age 88, of Apopka, passed away Saturday,
May 1, 2004. Mr. Miller was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He
was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winter Park. He
was an automotive service manager. Survived by daughter,
Carol M. Waters; sons, Arthur T.
Miller and Brian H. Miller; sister, Edna L. Miller;
nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorial
